Early Childhood Education and Its Significance

Understanding early educational policies and requirements is essential for caregivers and educators alike. At The Brookside School, Early Childhood Education (ECE) is a crucial part of our curriculum, forming the foundation for children and  holistic development. Our teachers work diligently to incorporate best practices in education. Our preschool programs are designed to enhance cognitive, social, and emotional growth, setting the stage for future academic achievements. We prepare children by using an array of educational strategies. Studies highlight that children participating in ECE are more likely to excel in their educational journey, even reaching higher educational milestones like high school graduation and beyond. Within a structured learning atmosphere, children at our school engage in exploration and activities tailored to foster lifelong learning and skill development. Our passionate teachers are at the core of our ECE initiative, guiding young minds with care and supporting their growth. They provide the essential foundation for a child's successful educational journey.

Educational Programs

The Early Childhood curriculum is carefully designed to meet the educational needs of young children. The Brookside School offers Early Childhood learning opportunities for all of its students. All young children participate in music and art programs, hands-on learning opportunities with our own farm animals, physical play, and a structured age-appropriate Early Childhood curriculum. Beginning at the age of three, we conduct educational field trips and students participate in our annual holiday and spring shows held at one of the local high schools. This exposure provides children and families with enriching experiences. There is always something exciting going on at Brookside from book fairs, special guests, holiday celebrations, shows, trips, and so much more.

Infants, Toddlers, & Two-Year-Olds

Play is woven into the fabric of our Early Childhood Education curriculum at The Brookside School. It aligns with early learning theories and provides tangible ways to engage young learners. It serves as a fundamental method for children to engage with peers, hone problem- solving abilities, and unleash their creativity. Through play, our students naturally develop essential motor and critical thinking skills. Our teachers integrate play-based learning to craft comprehensive educational experiences, fostering both academic and emotional resilience. This approach instills a passion for learning that supports children beyond their preschool years, equipping them for a successful academic journey.

Three- & Four-Year-Old Programs

Programs for these age groups include activities that promote effective learning and child development. These activities require a delicate balance between curriculum goals and the developmental needs of young children. Our Early Childhood curriculum for three- and four- year-olds is designed to make learning effective and fun with a mix of play, music, art, and early introduction of new concepts, including colors, shapes, letters, and numbers. This educational stage is vital for preparing children for future academic successes. Students are presented with challenges, which develop their fine and gross motor skills and problem-solving abilities—key elements in Early Childhood Education. Children, through Early Childhood Education, learn from each other and develop self-confidence through show and tell and our annual shows. Personal and social skills are also addressed, including manners, basic hygiene, interaction with peers, and responsibility. This requires consistent reinforcement from educators and families. These programs emphasize the early social and emotional development of children.

Kindergarten - 8th Grade

Our Kindergarten program aligns with the principles of Early Childhood Education. The elementary curriculum is designed to help each student excel to their full potential. Our academic curriculum includes a strong phonics-based program(beginning in 1st grade), practical approach mathematics, English, science, social studies, computers, music and Spanish. In addition, students participate in daily physical education classes. Field trips may include a visit to a planetarium, library, museum, theatre, dentist office, local beaches or other businesses. Many students take select classes at higher grade levels depending on that individual's ability. Terra Nova testing is administered annually to help evaluate student progress and validate the effectiveness of our curriculum. Computers, Chromebooks, and tablets on our school-wide network are used in some aspects of teaching in the classroom in the upper grades.

The Long-term Impacts of Our Early Childhood Programs

At The Brookside School, ECE enhances students and their academic prospects, contributing to consistent academic performance and higher graduation rates. Our programs cultivate critical skills such as analytical thinking, communication, and teamwork, essential for lifelong personal and social success. We create a nurturing community of learners that equips

children to face future challenges confidently. This pivotal phase in education, when crafted with intention and expertise, can lead to the most impactful outcomes for a child's future.
